Robert Murray & Helen Leithead

John Murray of Jedburgh in Scotland is researching his family who are descended from the above couple who had approximately 8 children in Sunderland Selkirk during the period 1798-1820.

If you are related to this family then please leave your comments here.

Robert Murray and Christian Lockie and relatives of Selkirk are also directly related to Robert Murray and Helen Leithhead.

Robert Murray was born in 1760 circa in Selkirk, his parents are believed to be Walter Murray and Margaret Ingles of Helmburn which was part of the Philliphaugh or Hangingshaw estate.

Hi. Have lots of Murrays, but most are from Castleton parish in Roxburghshire.

My wife does have a 3 x great grandmother, Helen Leithhead, born 1792 in Traquair, married an Andrew Brown in Peebles in 1818 and died in Edinburgh in 1874.

    Any connections on your Leithheads?

    Regards...Neil Byers

  2. Not sure about the Leithheads Neil, however john Murray from Jedborough might know, as he is related to Helen directly. Most of the Leithheads though are related to each other. I can send you John's email address if you would like to contact him.

In the meanwhile- how far back do your Castleton Murrays go? The Murrays of Philiphaugh & Falahill are scattered all around Scotland- actually lots in Stow - Heriot- Edinburgh- Berwickshire -Roxburshire & Dumfries shire as well as Selkirkshire & Peebles Shire.

You are most welcome to leave your Murray information on this board. cheers

    Hello Alexandrina. Thanks for that.

Actually, although I do have many Castleton Murrays, they seem to be mainly cousins, aunts etc. and came from farms round and about Newcastleton.

I do have a 6 x great grandfather, Thomas Murray (1761-1827) who lived in the Ewes/Westerkirk area of Dumfriesshire. I also have a 6 x great grandmother, Jane Murray (married David Hope and died 1788) and lived in Langholm, Dumfriesshire.

    Regards...Neil
